Qualification specifications

AAT qualifications are recognised and valued by employers as vocational and technical qualifications that prepare students for the world of work and for working specifically in accountancy and finance roles.

Qualification specifications are available for the AQ2016 qualifications for first teaching on 1 September 2016.

AAT Accounting Qualifications

601/6553/4 – AAT Foundation Diploma in Accounting and Business – Level 2

601/6554/6 – AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting – Level 3

601/6551/0 – AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting – Level 4
AAT short qualifications

601/8220/9 – AAT Foundation Award in Accounting Software – Level 2

601/8221/0 – AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping – Level 2

601/8219/2 – AAT Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping – Level 3

AAT Accounting Qualifications

We offer four Accounting Qualifications, which each take between 6 to 18 months to complete. These qualifications provide training for a huge range of accounting and finance roles and are respected by employers worldwide.

Foundation Certificate in Accounting

Foundation Diploma in Accounting and Business (16-19 year olds only)

Advanced Diploma in Accounting

This qualification can be used as a route to professional AAT Bookkeeper status (AATQB)

Professional Diploma in Accounting

This qualification can be used as a route to professional AAT Accountant status (MAAT).

AAT Entry Requirement

Foundation Diploma in Accounting and Business (16-19 year olds only)

Details This qualification will prepare 16-19 year olds for junior and entry level accounting roles. It delivers a solid foundation in finance administration – covering areas such as double entry bookkeeping and basic costing principles, alongside complementary business communications and personal skills.

GCSE (grades A*-C)
Key Stage 5 Technical Certificate

Achieve professional AAT Accountant status

If you successfully complete this qualification and fulfil our work experience requirements, you can apply for AAT full membership and achieve professional MAAT status.
